AFT and Graduate Student Workers

For decades, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) has been working with graduate employees to achieve more equity in compensation and benefits. The shift away from full-time, tenure-track faculty is accelerating, and is leading to the exploitation of graduate student workers.  Graduate workers are hired without job security, decent salary and benefits, or a strong voice in decision-making. AFT's partnership and local organizing efforts have fought back against this trend, and led to gains in compensation, career opportunities, health insurance, job security, and family friendly policies.

Here are a few examples of wins from public and private universities across the country:
